ROOH (Rising Over Obstacles and Healing)
Jul 9, 2026 · 31 min · 10 segments
Remember when summer meant waking up with zero plans, riding bikes until the streetlights came on, and complaining you were bored until you magically invented a new game? In this episode of ROOH…
We've been on the go since the first day that the kids were off school.
Being in this new school district, the kids get off earlier, right? Like beginning slash mid-June.
And as much as I had envisioned that we would have those mornings where we sleep in.
and relaxed days I don't know if you've ever encountered this but I've always every time just before school ends I always have other parents asking so what are your guys plans what camp are the kids going to what schedule are they going to have what are they doing any leagues and all that stuff and my answer has always been the same and the
look you should see on people's faces I'm just like nothing
They're not in a camp.
They're not doing any classes.
Like, what's their schedule like? And again, I'll be like, nothing.
And then I have to kind of put that back with the fact that like, listen, growing up, we never were, you know, enrolled in anything like that.
We had a schedule in a sense that, yes, we would go to bed a bit later, but we'd wake up.
we'd have a routine.
It was all just carefree play.
It was just, you know, like we'd go outside, we'd play, we'd come back home, we'd play.
I know in a day, my mom would once at least make us do math.
The
next day we'd have to write in our journal what we did.
So she'd have us write if we ever went on any kind of trip, you know, theme park, whatever it was, she'd always, she would like for us to write and she'd take us to the library once a week.
that was it it was just like a time to relax let down let go go to a cousin's house for a week for sleepovers it was unscheduled play and it was the best and
I
feel like that's what I look forward to now as a mother too because September until June it's every day is laid out for you right you need to wake up at this time they need to be at school and then after school activities and you know, parties, all these things, A through Z. It's just, I think you need to wind down and that's what summers are meant for.
So to go back, I can think initially I really had an idea of just like one or two weeks of relaxing, you know, sleeping in and we've had a great time.
It's been a fun summer, but it's been so go, go.
I feel like now my body's finally catching up and crashing.
Yeah.
Summers are, summers are fun.
