JamesHostDiazHostXavierGuestYeah, I got a couple because it's been a while since we've been able to do this.
So I'll start with the more negative one and say, fuck Arizona State.
For those who do not know, Arizona State has a collegiate hockey team.
It looks surprisingly
Yes, a surprisingly good one in that you wouldn't expect Arizona to have one when the vast majority of hockey in D1 is in the Northeast and Midwest.
And the Arizona State program was essentially founded by one dude who is the head coach and has been the head coach for 16 years.
And because he essentially founded the team, has been there the entire time since the transition from a club team to D1, has a super close relationship with the administration, he kind of has an iron grip on that team, on that campus.
He has gotten in trouble in the past for being a very aggressive coach.
A lot of telling his players that they've got to transfer because they're not good enough, using slurs and swears and very hyper-aggressive stuff.
And...
Earlier during the preseason, they brought in a former Green Beret to do one of those really tough, actively try to make you want to quit workouts.
And at the end of this workout, Matthew Mayich, who was a Blues prospect, was from Ontario and had just transferred to Arizona State.
This was, as far as I could tell, his first training session, his first practice with Arizona State.
And like there are specific rules that you're supposed to follow for heat because of training in the, in the desert.
Apparently, under the Arizona State rules, for anyone that comes from out of state, they're supposed to have a ramp-up period to get acclimated to the heat.
And again, he is someone who's from Ontario and had played at Clarkson University, which is in Potsdam, New York, near the Canadian border.
So very cold weather, big culture shock.
By the time they're able to treat him, he is functionally brain dead is the reporting.
He is never going to recover.
He is on life support.
And ever since this happened, Arizona State has done everything they can to just be like, oh, no one's to blame for this.
