"A King and His Spear" - 1 Samuel 26 - Nick Thompson

All right, so we're going to be in 1 Samuel chapter 26 this evening.

We're going to be looking at the entire chapter.

It's not as long as last week's if you were with us.

It was 44 verses.

We are 25 this evening, so we should be able to get through it just fine.

So in chapter 26, we actually come to the end of an important section in the book of Samuel.

In fact, chapters 24 and 26, actually, they're kind of one section.

They're after one thing in the life of David.

And this will be the last interaction between David and Saul.

Now, in each chapter, 24 through 26, the driving theme behind each chapter is a test for David.

And the test is, will he be a king like Saul? And by what means will he come into his rightful kingdom? By his or God's.

And in chapter 26, we come to the pinnacle of David's character up to this point in the narrative.

And this is our driving theme for this chapter, namely the character and nobility of a true king in the midst of trials.

So this chapter actually breaks down quite nicely for us.

There's kind of three main conversations.

There's four characters.

And so we're just gonna look at each conversation and see what the theological theme is for us.

But within each speech, within each section, David's words will dominate.

But first let's get the setting.
