Samantha Josephson was born in Princeton, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby Robbinsville Township, a close-knit community around 10 miles east of Trenton.
Samantha's mum, Marcy, is a speech and language specialist, and her dad, Seymour, works in tech sales and had done for over 30 years.
Back in Robbinsville, her friends and neighbours had a name for the stories they told about her.
Her school superintendent described a young woman with this infectious smile and contagious laugh, and a friend's mother put it pretty simply, and I think very telling, of just how Sammy came across.
That was all you could say about her.'" So we get to 2015 and Sammy graduated from Robbinsville High School and then she headed south to the University of South Carolina.
She joined the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and one of her close friends lived right next door to her in the freshman dorms.
She studied political science and she was really really thinking about what was coming next.
In fact, her Spanish teacher at school gave her a recommendation, a letter of recommendation for law school, and also spoke about her as this very bubbly, sweet person from the very first day, and also as someone planning ahead.
So you get the picture, she's determined, she's super smart, she's very well liked, and she has got these big, big ambitions.
And that letter of recommendation it worked sammy was accepted to drexel university school of law in philadelphia on a full scholarship girl come through that is amazing and so a couple of weeks before our case takes place sammy had been home in new jersey and she was there to kind of celebrate that acceptance Now, Sammy also had someone else, someone very special in her life who I just want to tell you a little bit about him before we get to the night of the case.
So Sammy's boyfriend, this boy called Greg, they had met at Five Points where they were both students and they had been together since the spring of 2017.
And then when Greg graduated at the end of 2018, he moved back to Mount Pleasant.
