Inflammatory bowel disease from diagnosis to referral to shared care has been one of the most popular topics in the current season of the GP Update course.

We shared our pearl on inflammatory bowel disease and pregnancy, so we'll be covering contraceptive choices, preconception advice for males and females, pregnancy, and postnatal care, including breastfeeding.

Menstrual problems are common in this age group and have a significant impact on quality of life, wellbeing, and participation in day-to-day activities generally.

But the summer holidays often bring more young people into general practice wanting to sort out their periods, because they may be going on a beach holiday or going to spend time in a pool or a swimsuit, and heavy periods can be particularly difficult to manage in the summer months, and this may be a source of embarrassment and distress in that younger cohort of women.

Young people may also be reluctant to talk about it and seek medical advice, so when they do consult, these conversations really matter.
