I feel I'm going to go off on a tangent.

And can I say that smear test is not an STI screen?

Please.

People think they come for a smear test and they're checking for their chlamydia and gonorrhea.

One is that when we do have conversations about pleasure is solely attached to sex and when it's solely attached to sex.

It's separate, like pleasure is always kind of like this, this asterisk, you know, after we have a conversations around like prevention and the dangers of sex and, you know, STDs and STIs and all of that.

Right.

And consent and all these meaningful things.

We might have been trying, and I can't remember.

But the OB found some troublesome cells, and it turned out they were precancerous cells in my wife, and it was caused by an STD.

And in that moment, I mean, I was devastated.

That was from me and my relationships before we had gotten married.

And I was embarrassed.

I was ashamed.

And in my mind, I'm like, wait, the guy that's going to crush his 30s just gave his wife an STD.

And I was embarrassed and I was ashamed and I didn't want to talk to anyone about it.

So he studied that in France for a little while.

And then he decided that actually he liked gynecology and STIs.

So he studied that for a while.

Then he took a brief break to become a ship's doctor.

And then he moved back to Germany to work in that field.

Then during World War I, he was very briefly an army doctor at a prison camp.

And I bet he got to work on urinary issues and parasites and STIs there.

So that was probably a good use of his education.

Okay? A couple of hairy moments here and there.

One of them was just STD.

I say all this because when people really do serve, it inspires me, and I had an opportunity to be tested, and I did what I thought I could.

Coincidentally enough, my DD-214 that says that I'm a combat veteran... is the one I forgot to fax with my civil service documents.

So yeah, it's just the stated reasons whether or not they were successful is another matter.

Another purpose was limiting the spread of venereal diseases or STIs.

So essentially, if the army can control which women they're having sex with and try and make those women STI free then there's less disease within the army and I think also the idea was that having soldiers like sexually satisfied I suppose was something that would make them less likely to be disobedient and you know acting out or anything like that but yeah it's a set of reasoning that really seems to strip out like the human experience as well doesn't it so sterile or like not really thinking about what kind of what kind of crimes are like required to actually like make this happen, you know?

Definitely.

And when you chose that, you chose consequences.

That's the same thing with STD.

But it's not the same thing either.

Because when you think about it, STD is a disease.

It harms you.

But pregnancy, it affects you, obviously.

And what it was, was that when newspapers before the internet, LAGNA.

No, I was like, what is that? But basically, they have clippings of what the press wrote about the queer community.
