Zuby is joined by CEO of Command Your Brand and creator of The Roman Pattern, Jeremy Ryan Slate. Jeremy shares the parallels between the fall of the Roman Empire and the current trajectory of the…
Jeremy, you have been talking a lot about something you call the Roman pattern.
So my first question is, what exactly is that?
So I think when you look at civilizational patterns, there's things that do frequently happen in history.
And I like to say that history doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme in a lot of ways.
And that quote's been attributed and misattributed to Mark Twain, so he may or may not have said it.
But I think a lot of times history isn't like that map in the mall that says you are here.
it's more or less some patterns we can observe and predict not only what our present looks like but what our future looks like as well and the reason i've looked so much at the roman empire versus the roman republic is time magazine brought up a point about three years ago where they said is donald trump julius caesar um and it's kind of like well we'll know he's definitely not julius caesar and i think when you look at it i tend to see how america's downslide and even a lot of the global downslide is to really following more of a republic empire timeline than that of a republic timeline so i've really looked at those certain things and it's kind of been shocking to me a lot of the comparisons i've seen and in the roman pattern there's really three key points we look at to decide you know what is happening the first being Monetary debasement.
They're also dealing with a border issue that they're unable to really handle or control their borders anymore.
And then the third thing we look at is basically the ethics of the people in political positions.
And by the late third century, it's at the point where in the third century crisis, which is the last 50 years of that, there's 26 different emperors in a 50-year period.
So it's really just chaos of knowing who's in charge, who's actually running things.
And that causes a trickle-down effect to those other two things of not handling your money well.
So that's what I'm really looking at when I'm looking at the Roman Pattern.
Are these three things happening? And if they are, what does that mean for the future of where things are headed?
