This Is Exactly What WNBA Teams Feared About the World Cup | QITM | Quita in the Morning

And I first want to start with Germany.

I titled this section Germany Gets Its Fairytale because that's kind of how I think about it, right? Because we're in Berlin, Germany for the Women's World Cup, right? Germany is hosting, right? And they start off the tournament.

against Spain, who is a very, very good team.

And Germany, not only do you not have Satu Sabli, who you were expecting to have at the beginning of this calendar year, right? This was supposed to be Germany's year, right? They got a lot of top players, a lot of big time players.

They got Leone Fibic, they got Niara Sabli.

They were going to have Satu Sabli, but Satu has concussion early in the WNBA season, doesn't return.

You know, she's still dealing with stuff there.

And so you don't have her.

So that's a blow before the, before the tournament starts.

And then on the day of the tournament starting you in front of your home country proceeds to get trounced by 30 points against Spain.

It was embarrassing, complete embarrassment.

Now we know how good Spain is now.

And yes, Spain is a really, really, really good team, but are they a 30 point blowout team over Germany? I would say no.

And for Germany, they were embarrassed, right? You're their host.

And now you have an entire tournament still left to play because you got trounced by 30 in the first game.

And instead of them feeling sorry for themselves and just kind of being sad about it, the Germans start to win.

They start to win.

They beat Japan, they beat Mali, and they dominate yesterday against Korea to ultimately make it to the quarterfinals.

And for the first time ever, Germany is in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup.

They've never been here before.

Uh, but they're here now and it is pretty cool to see.

Uh, and so I just, here's the thing.

There's always something about home court advantage, right? Home country advantage.

And for Germany, I wasn't totally sure if I was going to see that.

I wasn't quite sure if I was gonna see a German team sort of live up to the hopes and wishes of Germany.
