Like you said, it's, it's leaving, uh, leaving your home where you grew up and so on.

And so let me ask you this, what changes inside of us when we leave a country or our language, our culture behind? What, what has to happen to us in order to accept this, this change?

From my experience and also from what I have observed, um, in others who have left a country for different reasons, we lose the luxury of not having to explain [laughs] ourselves.

These ordinary things become very conscious, you know, humor, tone, body language, how direct you can be, what politeness means, how family is understood, even the volume when you speak, you know?

Um, so what happens is you become conscious of all this and you become observant, and this is a gift-

... because it creates a lot of empathy, it creates, uh, social intelligence, but it's also extremely exhausting [laughs] because-

... you're constantly reading the room, you know, you're constantly adapting.

And while it is a very good skill to have, to be highly adaptive, if you are not anchored in yourself and you can, you can almost erase who you were-

Yeah, that's one of the themes in your book as well, and, and something I've talked about a lot in other, in other episodes, is the difference between belonging and fitting in.
