Day 2 of the Aquatics GB Championships in the books, and the Propulsion Swimming Podcast discuss all the top swims of the night. We discuss Amalie Smith's new European Junior record in the 400m IM to…
yes um the winner in this one amelie blocks is no surprise there doesn't hit a personal best in this one i think there was a bit of disappointment after the race in that but at just the age of 17 she's now six time british champion four times in a row i believe in this event which is just astonishing personal bests are one thing but being a british champion is another thing altogether And in truth, still, there isn't a challenger to her yet.
No, and I think her main intention was to qualify for Team England at this Commonwealth Games this summer and box ticks.
I think the job was very much
done.
Which is a big deal.
It is a big deal, yeah.
Yeah, she led for the whole race.
10 seconds was her nearest competitor in Abbey Roscoe.
Yeah, there's no one there to challenge her, maybe push her on to maybe hit that finish.
European qualification time or whatever the major competition is that summer hopefully someone will come through and challenge her but it's an amazing stats to be four in a row at 17 in this event and we've got the 800 to come later on this week so she could easily add to that as well yeah let's watch this space still because there's more to come from her for sure
Yeah, I'm just looking through her splits in this race, and she was hitting 32.50 metres for essentially the whole race until about the 1,000 metre mark, where she started to drop off into 33s, albeit she finished with a 31.7. Maybe one day, who knows, there'll be some competition at the back end of the race to hopefully drive her back down to the personal best, but...
I think we're forgetting the fact that she's 17.
She's qualified for her first Commonwealth Games, which is going to be a fantastic experience in Glasgow for her.
She's already had so many experiences as a young junior swimmer in the sport of swimming, and this is another big step on her journey to come.
Yeah, I think that's the main thing to remember is that she's 17.
There's a lot more than just swimming happening going on at the moment.
There's school and all of that sort of stuff, exams happening.
So there's a lot more going on than just swimming.
But like you say, maybe a little bit disappointed that she hasn't gone her best time for a little bit.
But I think it's all a process and she'll get there eventually.
