FINA World Championships

And I thought, well, one day I'll get there because surely this will be a thing in the future.

I went to five World Cups and two World Swimming Championships over a space of a decade.

And I saw another two Olympics come and go.

And we weren't included still at that point.

[laughs]

... that shoulder injury I did around, um, Worlds in 2023.

Oh.

And so it's kind of been lingering and they didn't really know what was going on with it and it was like basically two and a half years of them just trying to, [laughs] to guess what was wrong and just playing around and we've sort of, right now, touch wood, it's sort of settled, but even now we're, I guess we're not really super sure why.

when you've got like s- you know, likes of Summer McIntosh and things in there.

So I think that there'll be lots to take from, from Worlds next year as well.

Um, yeah, because right, right now this summer I've, I have been out quick to 100.

And he got accepted, so we've been doing it for two years now.

And he's qualified for Worlds.

So he actually is your niece.

For the half Ironman.

yeah, and how'd that go? And

it went really, really well.

And I think that was a huge confidence booster for me, being like, this was my first Worlds, and yet I've shown I'm up here.

Like I'm capable not only of being here, but competing for a place on the podium and getting medals

Um, but it's, you know, you still have Regan Smith, you still have Katherine Berkoff, you still have Claire Curzan, Isabelle Stodden, who's just on the rise.

And if she's able to even build off of what she did this year, she's going to be a serious threat, um, not only for the 2027 Worlds, but also for the Olympics in 2028.

So I'm gonna sink it just based on the depth.

I would almost say if you would've asked me this a couple of years ago, I would've said swim, but we've seen just-

... she's out for the remainder of 2026.

My question for you is will we see Kaylee McKeown win gold at 2027 Worlds?

This one was hard.

Um, and so that, that definitely pla- played a role in, in kind of the, the little bit of a slower time.

Um, and it's kinda crazy to say 'cause, you know, like I've, I've swam in the final at Worlds in the 100 and the Paris final in the 200.

So, like, I have that experience.

And so it is kind of, you know, disappoint- disappointing in myself and a little, you know, just like, "Wow, I still, you know, sometimes let it get to me." And that, that was definitely a race where it, it kinda got to me.

Do you ever, do you ever think like- With this year not being, like, an Olympic year or World Championships year, I mean, obviously we have Short Course Worlds in December, that it almost was easier to, like, "All right.

I'm gonna step back a little bit, just kind of appreciate the work that I've put in, and then kind of look forward to that next two years as we get closer to a home Olympics."

I would say throughout the year it was way easier to kind of, like, not, like, focus on the work without worrying, like, okay, like, what is...

Worlds because I had a little stupid ankle-

Fiji One News says Pomeroy Farrell won bronze in the boys three-meter springboard at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships in Rijeka, Croatia, scoring forty, uh, four hundred and ninety point five zero points in the final.

The achievement comes three years after he made another piece of Fijian diving history when he became the first diver to represent Fiji at World Aquatics Championships, competing at the World Championships in Fukuoka in 2023.

Pomeroy Farrell has been developing his diving career in Mexico after moving there with his mother, Renata, from Canada in 2019.

And in the second half of the All Blacks game against the Lions at Ellis Park, the Lions lead thirty-five seventeen.

...looks relatively comfortable, and she thought, "Well, I can really actually kind of push the first 50 into the second 50 more." And she did that, like, perfectly from that point of view, and then came away with, yeah, a massive British record, a massive PB, and hopefully, like I said, massive sta- stepping stones for the future come Worlds.

Uh, she's had a fantastic summer, uh, and again, going into Worlds next year, I suspect, hopefully she'll be the world leading swimmer again in, uh, the 100s, and hopefully she'll then bring in results again.

So we'll, we'll see.

Not quite a personal best for him, but 49. fairly close and very quick.

And Hubert Koch was in fourth off of the podium, not at a Worlds, but at a European Championships with a 50.25. 50.25 is remarkably quick.

And the fact that that ends up off the podium now shows just how fast this event has gotten.

It really is feeling like 49 is the new 50 point low because that used to be kind of the gold standard of if you were under 51, especially like under 50, you know, 50.5 or so past five, six years, that would be, oh man, you're in contention to win a world title.

The world record difference when you go back and look at it on the broadcast is 0.00 seconds, which means Alexi was up against Jason Lezak.

He has split faster than Lezak's 4606.

But he was not on that form tonight and also did not have a draft to ride like Lezak did and like he did when he split a 45 during the medley relay during last year's Worlds.

Now, Australia was behind them in a 309.57. Also incredibly quick.
