Part four with **John Rayner** is the ranger years, and it opens with how he got there: taking the pay cut from mining money to a National Parks traineeship, moving down to Barmah on the Murray with…
Yeah.
I took a traineeship back then and, um, yeah, she was hard going coming from the mining wage to that.
Um, was traveling from there because I tried to get a house, a rental, and they're like, "No, you have to come and inspect it." And I'm like, "I can't, I ju- I don't know anyone down there." I...
Anyway, um, ended up just moving in with these old people and living in their house for a bit, and that was pretty wild.
We'd been together for four months, I think, and I said, "Well, I'm moving down here.
You wanna come?" And she's like, "Yeah, I do." And, um, she grew up in Central Coast, so yeah, not a bushy at all.
Like, uh, just fast-forward, we were working up in Queensland, and she go- ended up getting a job up there, and she's driving tractors and, yeah, backing trailers and, yeah, you know.
Um, I taught her to shoot and all, all the things you do with a, you know, a city girl you teach her out the country.
She's, yeah, she's gone from, you know, not, not knowing how to change a tire to, um, just an absolute weapon, man.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She's a weapon and, um, yeah, we got two, uh, beautiful girls, uh, five, three, and we- we just got our little boy as well.
He's eight or nine months old now, a little birdie, so yeah, fucking very happy.
Yeah.
