HAS GOOGLE BECOME TOO COMPLICATED FOR SMALL BUSINESSES? | ProfileTree Podcast Hosted by Padraig, Gabrielle & Jack ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📌 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE…
Um, so to jump in first, I suppose my first question to you guys would be if you were a small business owner setting up a business today or tomorrow, where would you start with Google? What would be probably your first service that you would set up? You know, ones that you may initially use ones that you'd probably, you know, kind of wait down the line.
I think for me, I would probably go for, say if I was starting a business, say tomorrow, I would probably go for Google My Business Profile first, just because obviously, say if you're starting a business, you might not have your website ready yet.
You might not have your social media channels ready yet.
And say like with your Google My Business Profile, it can be set up even if you don't have that ready and you can update it afterwards.
But we're saying I think it's a good starting point for your business is that not only the site you've already kind of land the foundations for your google presence with it but also as well it's good to check say for example if there's maybe another business in your maybe area or say surrounding area that might have say a similar business name so you might go into it thinking i can just put my business name and you know start from there where you might then discover that you might have to adapt it in some way because of another business so that's where say like with your google my business profile gets you started you can update it when you're ready but and you can build from there but it also eliminates any say potential issues that can come up for you maybe later on
um i suppose even probably google my business is nearly even like a certain point for everyone before a website you know it's just a bare minimum that you'd have like opening hours locations phone numbers like it's almost like a first initial kind of online listing i suppose
Yeah, especially like I find a lot with, say, like service-based businesses I work with, you really find that, you know, even I think I've spoken to someone before and they'll say that people, you know, come to them first from, say, their Google My Business profile rather than, say, their website or, say, social media platform.
You know, so even, say, getting started, especially, say, if you're maybe at a stage where you want to, say, deliver your services but don't maybe have that budget to incorporate, say, like a full website built into it, you know, it's a good way to start building that awareness that way.
Yeah, I suppose like a lot of businesses, especially like, cause that's kind of like almost the main Google maps profile as well.
You know, you're putting something in like that and it's not appearing like it's almost like suspicious at this stage not to have one.
Yeah, definitely.
Yeah.
Um, so I suppose, Jack, what would you, what would your first one be if you were to?
A hundred percent.
It's one of those ones.
But if I was setting up my business tomorrow, obviously want to make sure that the correct information is in it.
So the correct full business name, the business address, or say, for example, if you may be offering services that you travel to your customers, the services that you would offer or the areas you would offer, sorry.
And then you'd also want to include kind of your correct opening hours, all the services you would offer.
And then making sure you're filling that in with a nice keyword rich description, some links to your website, any social media signals, if you may have them at the time.
And just making sure you're adding kind of real imagery of maybe the premises, your team, any finished work before and afters, whatever it may be.
And then one thing I'd like to keep on top of once I've got it set up is kind of constantly updating that account and making sure we're adding new photos and new images and new videos into that as well.
So I suppose it almost, even if whether you have or have not a website, it's almost like a trust-based thing as well.
You know, for verifying businesses are real, they have a location address, they've reviews again from images and stuff like that, that it's a genuine business.
Um, so then my next question would be, so we've established that Google My Business, um, would be probably the first starting point for any business that we'd recommend starting up tomorrow.
