THE INVITE - The Popcorn Junkies Movie Review (SPOILERS)

Well, this is based on, it is actually based on a play because it feels very play-like.

It's based on, I think, a French play.

Oh, is it? It's turned into a Korean film and various other things.

That doesn't mean the dialogue's the same, but the concept.

I think the original play...

It was called something like The People Upstairs or something like that, very unimaginative.

And it really is about the people upstairs.

We saw the trailer for this, and it was quite clear from the trailer, wasn't it, that it was clearly going to be a film about the comedy of sexual manners, almost, and the thrill or suggestion or threat, depending on which character you are in it, of a possible foursome and group sex, basically.

So I haven't seen the trailer.

This

is why I said he couldn't have sex.

Are you all right, Ness? What's happened to you? It was just

so

funny the way you made it all go wrong.

The mere concept of it is just absolutely outrageous.

So I was really looking forward to this.

I've become an enormous fan of Seth Rogen in recent years.

I haven't been a fan of Olivia Wilde, if I'm brutally honest, until this.

And I've been slightly concerned that Penelope Cruz's last few performances have been a bit stiff.

And Ed Norton I just haven't seen in a while, though we love your politics, Ed.

So when we went and sat down to watch this, what were your feelings as we settled in? Having seen the trailer, knowing that we were going to get a comedy about sex.

I was...

We've been bitten so many times when we've seen a good trailer, and then you get there and it's not.

So I was, like, hopeful...

but ready to be disappointed.
