But one important thing that started this week is the season.
Training camp began on Thursday the 17th.
And there are a bunch of Red Wings, a bunch of prospects, some who are likely to spend the season in Grand Rapids, some who might come up or down.
and quite a few, obviously, who will stay with the team for the duration, including one who doesn't actually have a contract yet.
Simon Edvinson, by technicality, is attending this training camp on a PTO until he is signed by interim GM Sean Horkoff.
That was an announcement that was made since we came live last on the episode 40 that we just talked about there.
Also, what happened, there was an interview, a quote-unquote interview, with Chris Illich from the Detroit News, Bob Wojnowski.
He sat down with Chris Illich and they talked a little bit about what has gone on with the franchise over the last couple of months.
It was meant to reassure some fans and listeners.
likely season ticket holders or people who would generate revenue for the team, that actually we know what is going on and we know what we're doing, but I'll tell you what, it didn't seem like it came across that way.
And then, of course, Sean Horkov spoke to the media, Dylan Larkin spoke to the media for the first time, and Todd McClellan spoke to the media after the first day of training camp.
We are recording this on Friday the 18th, so there have been two days of training camp.
And of course, Simon Edvinson has still not signed.
So chronologically, what happened is that on September 15th at 10 o'clock Eastern, the Sean Horkoff was named interim general manager of the Detroit Red Wings after two months to the day since Steve Eisenman got fired and was announced by the Red Wings as having taken over general manager duties in the interim while they find a guy.
It was later clarified that no, actually, they're not being led by Steve Eisenman in the interim position.
No, he is not actually leading the charge to find a new general manager.
They're actually hiring a search firm.
That happened, I don't know, maybe a month ago.
And after one month of running through this search firm, it seemed pretty clear that Jeff Greenberg of the Detroit Tigers was the leading candidate.
This was speculated early on in the process by Elliott Friedman, as well as some other sources who are closer to the Red Wings.
And then about a week before this all went down, Greenberg withdrew his name from consideration.
Now, it could be that he wanted to stay with the Tigers.
It could be that he realized he did not have the hockey expertise to go forward with this.
Or it could be that there was a precondition to taking this general manager job that he did not find agreeable.
And, well, that might also be the case for everyone else.
