There's a line in the book that you say, "Burnout is a cultural output as predictable as any other metric." If it is predictable, why is nobody predicting culture? Why is nobody out there measuring culture?

So if you think about how culture's shaped, it's by generally observing what the most successful people in a group do.

That's not the guidelines and the scorecards and the functional HR considerations that manage culture.

Now, in Australia, the AICD says the board sets the culture, sets the tone for the culture.

The board are very uneducated around what culture is, and they're quite arrogant quite often that they understand what culture is because they've been great leaders.

I can't help but think there's some groupthink around culture and the notion, "Oh, here's what we do around here, young fella, young lady.

This is what we do around here." The most limiting sentence you can ever hear from a leadership group, "This is what we do around here."

You know, if we get, have a definition, this is what we do around here, or, you know, Edgar Schein said it's a tacit assumptions, which is so academic, no one knows what it means.
