Then dogs offered love when he couldn't

Zach Skow drank himself into liver failure by 28. He needed a transplant to survive, and you had to prove six months of sobriety just to qualify. While he waited it out, wondering if he'd make it…
Zach ScowGuestAlexanderHostThere she is.
She knew it was coming.
Thank you.
Dude, I have to say what you do is extremely noble, but it comes from a place of despair when you're looking for something, you're looking for answers.
And I
kind of want to unpack that a bit of how these dogs led you to find these answers in your life and guided you to where you're at today.

I'll just say self-hatred, kind of a lingering, swirling lack of acceptance of myself that is really difficult to process.

And then of course, when you throw in acute drug addiction and alcoholism, where you just become a burden to the people around you, including yourself.

It becomes so laborious, so overwhelming to just be enveloped by negative self-talk, negative perceptions, negative ruminating, and I didn't know how to snap out of it.

I was, like, obsessed with this idea that I was wasted talent, that, you know, they talk about the worst thing in life being wasted talent.

And everybody my whole life had told me, you know, my nickname when I was a kid was Golden Boy, which I hated.

But I had spent so much time, you know, like, I peaked when I was, like, 13, right? Just downhill from there.
