Jets Game Night Host on CJOB Kelly Moore & Toronto Star's Kevin McGran (10/23/26)

And we're going to welcome an angle out of Winnipeg with Kelly Moore from CJOB.

And Kevin McGran is going to join us from the Toronto Star with the Maple Leafs coming to town tomorrow.

Gentlemen, how you doing? We'll start with you, Kelly.

Anything happen in Winnipeg today or with the Heritage Classic? Something occurred during the course of today?

Well, you know, I think Sonny Mehta and Kevin Sheveldayoff got together and they said, you know, Stauffer does the Friday frenzy in Edmonton, so let's really create a frenzy.

You know, as if it isn't busy enough with the Heritage Classic and the alumni game, throw in a trade like this as well, and it certainly adds to the ambiance, let's just say.

What's the mood like? How's it being received in Winnipeg, Kelly? 50-50.

I would say that I'm out of function tonight, actually, and it's interesting to listen to the conversations that are going around, and it's pretty much symbolic of what...

I don't spend a whole lot of time on social media.

I'll be quite transparent about that.

But just in terms of what we had with the reaction at the radio station, there are people that feel Kevin Sheveldayoff got fleece, that Kevin Sheveldayoff waited too long, that he could have got a better deal with the Buffalo Sabres.

Then there are people that are pretty optimistic.

with the return that he did get for Connor Hellebuck.

And so, you know, to me, that's probably at least a bit of a win for Shovel Dayoff in that you've got one camp vehemently disagreeing with what he did and another that says, yeah, no, you did as well as you could under the circumstances.

And I was trying to think, guys, and Maybe something might trigger for you, but I can't remember the last time that a marquee goaltender, still somewhat in his prime, and with all the years on his contract that Heidelbach has, uh, was available.

And so I don't know that there's a whole lot of precedent here.

And, uh, you know, so I'll, I'll give Kevin shovel day off a little bit of a rope on this one in that it's not the same thing as trading for a star defenseman, like the package that, uh, Vancouver got for Quinn Hughes or for a forward.

I do think that, uh, you certainly have to take that into consideration when you look at the return that they got in, uh, You know, Dawson Mercer and Alexander Command and Nico Dawes.

I don't know what they're going to do with a third netminder.

That's going to be interesting to see how that plays out.

You know, Nick Bugstad was just simply to help New Jersey salary-wise, and then the draft picks are what they are.

All right, Kelly.

Kevin,

thank you for joining us.

Kevin from the Toronto Star.
