On this episode, we crack open both a philosophical and moral dilemma regarding alcoholism with this Danish drama about masculinity and self love. Cheers! This episode was recorded July 28th, 2026.
I really like it.
I watched this when I got nominated, like I said earlier, for the Oscars that year.
I really enjoyed it then, but admittedly, I think I fell asleep during part of it, and I hadn't seen it since then.
So this did feel like a first time watch in many ways, but I found it super compelling.
The part that really stood out to me, and it's an idea that I don't know if I've ever seen before, The idea of taking a real life theory and creating characters to use as lab rats for it.
And I just find that more unique than if it was just based on a true story.
And it gives like the filmmakers the leeway to be able to explore every avenue of this theory.
I really feel like we touch on every single aspect of alcoholism.
to some degree within this thing.
That was the part that took me back more than anything I found.
And I thought it to be super compelling because of that.
What about you?
No, I really like this one too.
I thought it didn't have a single useless scene in it.
Like there was nothing in this that felt like filler or anything like every...
Thing was deliberate.
And, you know, every time he's on screen, the level of depth he can portray with just his eyes at some points.
And he does it a lot in this one.
It's
insane,
dude.
It's outstanding, especially like.
i'm thinking about every basically ever seen this movie like he's just let's be clear like when he's in the scene you're not looking at the other three guys yeah like this that's just what it is you know that's there's no beating around that bush like the other three were good But it's Mads Mikkelsen, you know, like it's you know who you're here for.
And the whole script, everything about it, I thought was great.
