Midlife crisis

I want to clarify.

Would this in some ways, for some people, feel a little bit like a midlife crisis?

Yeah, it could.

Okay.

It's like, Oh, my God, what? Who am I now? It's like, I can't look at myself as like this kid and Maybe my childhood dreams and that sort of stuff.

I have a new perspective and it might be very challenging.

That's why it's a midlife crisis because it's like, oh my God, life didn't work out the way that I thought it was going to.

Now I need to reassess moving forward.

And there's time.

Speaking of, I want to start talking a bit about this midlife crisis.

You talk about sitting with uncertainty.

Yeah.

And I think a lot of us who are in their late 30s, 40s, 50s get into this.

I've had this moment a few times in the last few months.

I'm like, am I in a midlife crisis? Is

this what a midlife crisis is?

yes in a word and i'm not saying that it's only at that age but i think particularly at sort of mid-life let's say is when there's a lot of i mean ultimately you look ahead and there's probably less years ahead of you than there are behind you and that wakes people up sometimes that emergence can present as a bit of an emergency depending on how our lives are set up, what our relationship with ourselves looks like.

And so midlife crisis, as it were, though we sort of band the term around quite casually, Really, midlife crisis is something that in psychosynthesis psychology we called the crisis of meaning.

When we get to the top of the mountain and how we imagined it might be doesn't feel.

And so there's this sense of void or emptiness or emptiness.

I think there's a lot of fear, to be honest, at any age.

And we were laughing earlier before we began around sort of not to make it, not do the millennial thing and make it about me.

But that often I think, What is interesting now is that midlife crisis is we're seeing it earlier and earlier and earlier.

And that sort of the quarter life crisis is now coming in whereby there is this, where should I be by a certain age that's getting earlier and earlier, but is more documented or more sort of colloquial understood of when you get to a certain age.

Doc, I read something that made me really sad for you, and I need you to confirm whether or not you agree and think this is true.

I read that the midlife crisis is dead and a thing of the past because millennials cannot afford to have a midlife crisis because what millennial can go buy a Corvette?

[laughs]

I, I sadly think that's true, yeah.

Um, or, I was gonna say I think that instead of the midlife crisis you gotta have not a quarter-life crisis but like a, a third-life crisis.

Something, something that happens in your 30s where, where you're doing all that stuff.

And, and you won't be able to ...

The only Corvette you can get is like a Hot Wheels, right? Like [laughs] do you know-

Tom Brady.

This ongoing midlife crisis is for the ages.

It is f- and I wonder if either he just doesn't have good people advising him, which I find hard to believe, or he just doesn't listen to anybody.

I don't know if you've seen this yet, Billy, but he, uh, posed for GQ in leather pants.

No business.

Absolutely not.

And then, listen, and to, to really to put things in perspective, like, we, we, we're laughing about Tom Brady with his hair and his tight leather pants and everything, and if this is the midlife crisis, you know, wearing leather pants and, you know, going from greatest quarterback of all time to Gucci runway with leather pants looking ridiculous, like, it's really not that bad.

It's funny as hell, and it's great to talk about, but not Tiger Woods by any means.
