Some of my favorite Tom Cruise roles are the ones that really push him out of his comfort zone, where he's working with a director maybe he doesn't work with so frequently, and the character has kind of a frequency that you don't expect from him.

I mean, I'm, of course, thinking of Vincent in Collateral.

The vibe of that character is very unusual for Tom Cruise, even though he, I think, does a really great job in that role.

I think my favorite performances of his are probably in that, in Collateral and Eyes Wide Shut, which are both one-offs, both with directors he only worked with once.

I think we talked about this when we discussed Eyes Wide Shut, that there's kind of a bombast to a lot of his roles that sometimes, I don't wanna say it's distracting, but maybe that gets a little more of the attention than some of-

And I was like, "Man, I wanna rewatch [laughs] this movie."

And then Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby, I think it's mostly because of... she plays kind of two sides of the coin in this movie she plays like really dandy really pretty like aspiring mother and then when she becomes that mother like the paranoia the postpartum is just like excruciating and she kind of helps bring the the plot along which is great and then ethan hawke for blue moon is seven i think it's because i don't know it's again it's not recency bias you just have to watch the movie it's just remarkable what he's able to do in that script um yeah and then joan crawford for daisy kenyon uh just i mean joan crawford's one of the best and you know just what a marvelous movie and the performance kind of relies on her to be that good mads mickelson probably my number five because i mean the movie itself is super great and all the performances are really there like the the children acting are really good I also love the environment.

If you look back at like my perfect movie draft, I'd said Thomas Vinterberg to be my director.

And I think the hunt is like the ultimate example of why I love Vinterberg in general, just like the fall season.

And yeah, his performance is just remarkable.

But it turns out Lars Von Schur has only ever made one movie where he actually... tries to achieve all of the Dogma 95 stuff.

So yeah, he and another filmmaker named Thomas Vinterberg created this movement, created the rules of Dogma 95, and then Ventura immediately was like, nah, I'm not going to why would I do that for my next movie? And mostly this is sort of what the five obstructions get into, um, because they're, they're sort of dogma rules applied, but it's making them up on the fly.

Um, but the, the dogma rules are, uh, shooting must be done on location.

Props and sets must not be brought in.

There's a real feeling there.

They've had a number of very big TV shows, for example, Families Like Ours by Thomas Vinterberg, the famous director.

I think there's an understanding in that country that, look, we're on the line here.

What they did is they built a tripartite agreement across industry, government, NGOs and farmers.

mean you know like um like even ruben s oslo obviously too amazing he's he's he's also you know growing up on bergman and a lot of great danish directors So, yeah, it's a kind of part of the filmmaking, you know, map that I'm really fond of.

Thomas Vinterberg is another guy who I think is incredible.

The guy who did Another Round with Mads Mikkelsen.

I think he works with Mikkelsen a lot and he's someone I just...

Vinterberg movie? That movie is l- is probably my favorite movie that is l- listed as being Swedish on Letterboxd, but that's a Danish filmmaker, so.

Well, if our Swedish family could come forth and let us know what we're missing from the Swedish cannon before we record that episode.
