At 21 years old, I had my own television show. Throughout my early and mid-twenties, I was selling out live events, meeting celebrities, writing a book, creating an oracle deck, teaching online…

Before the TV show, before the book, before the sold out events, before Monica the Medium was a brand, there was just Monica.

And here's something that I didn't even learn until years after I started publicly doing my work as a medium.

I share this in my book, but it's a story my mom told me after I had already come out of the medium closet.

She told me a story about something that had happened when I was four years old.

This is my mom's memory, but apparently one day she was walking upstairs with a basket of laundry when she noticed me playing on the landing of our stairs and I was talking to somebody and she asked me if I was playing make-believe with my imaginary friends and apparently I looked right at her eyes and I said no mom it's not make-believe look they're here they're my angel friends don't you see them and And, you know, she had four kids out of all of her four daughters.

What's funny to me is that she didn't tell me that story until well after I'd started doing mediumship professionally because, and again, if you've read my book, you know this, but my mom having been the kind of staunch, hardcore Catholic.

She was worried when I first came out of the mediumship closet that what if these gifts were from the devil? What if this was against the church and her religion? So she didn't want to validate at the time the fact that, hey, there were signs that something was different about you even far earlier than you realized.

So I was always intuitive and empathic growing up, but it really wasn't until high school where I started to hear, feel and see things.
