Investigators are still reviewing an officer-involved shooting that happened in Layton early this morning.
Latent police tell me this all started just before 1 a.m. when a 22-year-old man allegedly charged at an officer with a knife here at this apartment complex on the corner of Hillfield Road and SR-193.
Police are accusing the man of not following their orders to drop the knife, and that's what led the officer to shoot him.
Latent police tell me they have had contact with him on three other occasions, though it's unclear if any of those encounters ended in an arrest.
Police say the man's ex-girlfriend was the one who called 911 saying she was worried he would stab any police officers who showed up.
West Valley City Police have arrested a man they say shot another man in front of two kids this past weekend.
Maria, police documents say on Saturday around 1 in the morning, the suspect, 26-year-old Riley Avila, met with the victim, 24-year-old Abraham Martinez, with the intent to rob him.
The two got into an argument and then police say Avila shot at Martinez, who was sitting in the backseat of his car at the time.
Roxanne Vainuku with West Valley City Police says the driver brought Martinez to the hospital, but he died the next evening.
Investigators were able to track Avila down to an apartment in Taylorsville where they were able to arrest him.
And he has been booked on multiple outstanding felony warrants in addition to several new charges.
That includes aggravated murder, robbery, and felony discharge of a firearm.
Police in Summit County have arrested a man who's accused of pulling out a gun in a confrontation with another driver on SR-32.
Arrest documents obtained by the park record accuse the 52-year-old motorcyclist of showing off the gun after pulling up to the truck.
