John ReidHostDavid EJ BergerHostThe China Open is an outdoor 500-level event at the National Tennis Center, which also features a retractable roof like Tokyo, runs simultaneously with a WTA event.
including becoming a 500 level in 2009 and i bring up that note because novak djokovic proceeded to rip off six titles in seven years after that and he never lost a match he's back in the draw in 2023 This was the kindling to spark Yannick Sinner's run to number one when he took down this comically large trophy.
Of course, John, we talked about on the last episode, the slower of the two, but still plenty of pace this week in China.

Yeah, I would just be careful kind of labeling it as too slow, especially if you're watching, if you're on the East Coast here and you're waking up and you're seeing a match at 6, 7 a.m., which is starting, you know, obviously the nighttime or the evening over there as conditions will slow.

Because keep in mind, conditions have typically played slower in the night session there, maybe even more so than your typical tournament where things are always slower, obviously, as the sun goes down.

And so if you're watching things when you get up in the morning with your coffee and saying, oh boy, this looks slower, it's probably isolated.

And since the WTA there is there at the same time, check how many actual matches are in the night session i don't know if that many men's matches are going to be in played in those slower conditions so you don't want to be kind of letting yourself be informed by a one or two match sample that you've that you've watched when in reality the vast majority of matches are going to be played during the day which which just isn't going to match um the kind of eye test at night
much better weather At this event compared to the other one, looks like high 70s, dipping down to the low 70s and clear most of the week.
