SCARS: Entire Horus Heresy EXPLAINED

So to start the book off, we're actually way back in the day during kind of the, I guess it would be the Great Crusade sort of era, very beginning.

We start off with a character called Tamu of the Kinjan clan.

He was about 16 years old and he's being set upon by three humans on the grasslands of the Altac, which is on Chagoras, which is the White Scars homeworld.

He's been stealing milk and belly meat, as you do.

And he's saved by a man called Targatai Yasugai, Zajian Arga.

And he basically goes, hey, mate, bit of a rough day.

Don't worry.

You can come with me.

We're going to make you...

You're obviously struggling.

We're going to make you something better than scrabbling for scraps.

And alongside 24 boys aged 7 to 9, this boy called Tamu is taken to begin the Astartes trials.

Flash to, I believe it's Holy Terror, another boy called Harren Svensellen of Skandmark, or Scandinavia, I guess you would say, in our common parlance, is also in a training center of Imando.

And he's told a phrase, young aspirant, no backward step by his recruiter.

Harren is poised to become a member of the 16th Legion, the Sons of Horus.

And back to Tamu, he's at the Kumkata Mountains with the apothecary Jeljin.

And he's undergone the surgeries and he's recovering.

And this start of the book basically gives you a grounding of here's two perspectives of people who will become space marines.

One in the White Scars, on Jagoris.

One in the Lunar Wolves recruitment process for Terra.

And it gives you a kind of dichotomy between space marines growing up on a Primarch's homeworld to a Terran.

And it even goes into, for example, Tamu, he's starting to learn Terran dialect.

And he hopes one day he's going to meet one.

Hal, before we get any further into all this quite dense book, it's an interesting place to start one.

What's the deal with Terrans today?
