UConn Huskies stand on the brink of a Power Four breakthrough as the Protect College Sports Act reshapes conference realignment. Is a major conference invitation finally within reach for UConn fans?…
thinking it was going to get to this point where, hey, if this thing starts to move forward, get support from all the powers that be, and moves to the Senate, moves to the House, we think there's opportunities for UConn to now finally get to a Power 4 conference.
Why do I say that? In this bill, and it still needs to be approved by the Senate first, then it goes to the House, then it becomes law.
It sounds like based on what we're reading, based on all the reporting out there, that this will be put forward for a vote in front of the U.S. Senate by the end of next week.
Ahead of the Senate going on an extended recess in the month of August, their summer recess.
Why is this big? Number one, this will cap conferences, based on the current language, this will cap conferences at 19 teams.
The other piece that's pretty significant as the bill is currently written and the final bill that will be put forth in front of the Senate next week.
Additionally, that five-year independent rule does not apply to anybody that's currently independent or anybody that's in the G6.
We do not want to vote to add UConn last year or two years ago, if you remember.
Yermark has been trying to push UConn across the finish line for a long period of time.
