Storylines identified on the men's side and just in general, last year's ascent course was cut short.

I don't know if it's because of snowfall or some access to the course, but basically it was a shortened course, which meant that it was like 20 minutes shorter than it usually is.

So I thought the results were a bit skewed and it was kind of disappointing because it was a selection race for the men's and women's race.

This year's race, from what I understand, is going to be more representative of the times that we've seen two years ago and the strengths of the VK that should play to a VK field, not just like a fire road race, more or less.

I think the people that are a little bit stronger mountain athletes and a little bit better on steep stuff are going to have better chances as well.

Sorry, I just remembered that Roy Linkletter is racing, so I'm adding his name.

So favorites are obviously going to be people I think that have the most likelihood to win or that you should most strongly consider.

And then when I say people to look out for, it's kind of a mixture of people that you might not know, but also people that could be some sleeper picks as well.

So favorites in the race for the men's ascent, obviously going to be Patrick, Philemon, Cam Smith, Christian Allen.

People to look out for, Alexander Ricard, Aries Reading, Roy Linkletter is going to be an interesting one.

So jumping into the men's side, Patrick Cappangeno doesn't need any introduction.

And he won the VK in 2024 over Jim Walmsley, but chose not to run it last year.

If he's not on your podium, and I don't know what you guys are doing, that's Patrick Cappangeno.
