Ep 367 Bill's thoughts on So Cal month & Brian Reed DKP II

Well, guys, it's been a while since, uh, since I've given an update on what was happening.

I know that I did an update with my European trip, but just before I went to Europe, I had an opportunity to go to, uh, well, it's SoCal, uh, month and a half or whatever shenanigans it is, and so this year I made... [chuckles] I mean, listen, I've told the guys from Southern California, you know, a million times, I've been saying this for years since I've been doing the podcast, you have overloaded the month of June with too many things to do.

There's too many competing factions.

Everybody's fighting against everybody.

And a, a simple thing to this would be, like, um, you know, we have...

I, I'll give you, I'll give you the California mentality in a nutshell, right? I do One Crazy Weekend first weekend in October.

[lips smack] Now, originally I did it in September, but it was a little too hot, and so we started moving it around.

And, and One Crazy Weekend is done at a m- at, at a hotel and casino, a multi, multi-million dollar, uh, venue that's, uh, you know...

It, it's, it's just gigantic, right? So I'm kind of at, at, uh, mercy of the hotel, right? And so then I moved it to, uh, first weekend in October, where Las Vegas, the Bug In, all that stuff, has traditionally always been first weekend in October.

So we moved it there, and then I get a call one day from Dan with VWB Trends, and he says, "Hey, Bill, um, you know, I talked to the guys over at, um, over at, uh, the Big Bear show that happens first week in October, and they wanted to know if they could figure something out with scheduling, and, uh, let's see if we can, uh, work something out." I said, "Sure, no problem." So I reached out to the guy that he gave me the information to, and I called him.

I said, "Hey, what's going on? I understand that our events are the same date.

Definitely like to see if we can work something out." And their response was like, "Yeah, we're first weekend in October.

You need to move your event." I said, "Well, I'm working with a major hotel and casino, and from my understanding, yours is at the Holiday Inn.

I think you might be a little more flexible than I am, and I don't really get a choice." And then it was just kind of like that was it.

[lips smack] And the reason I bring up that example is, for me, that's been the SoCal mentality.

It's like everybody thinks they run things.

Like, I run this, I run that, and, you know, this guy runs this weekend, and that guy runs this weekend.

And, and interestingly enough, I saw, you know, my...

This is just my experience from being down there.

And remember, I'm not a SoCal guy.

I'm a Las Vegas guy, so always a little bit of an outsider to some extent.

But, you know, it's interesting.

I witnessed the, maybe the death of the DKP meet.

You know, I know some people might say like, "Oh, you know, what do you mean by that?" You know, and, and that's, you know, "Bill, you don't know what you're talking about." Well, [lips smack] as I've seen from an outsider's perspective, that I have a little bit of an inside track on some stuff with respect to what's taking place down there in Southern California, a little bit of the dynamics, because I know some of the people involved.

Some of the promoters I do know, some of them I don't know.
