A bird just landed on the feeder, Duane.

It looked left.

Then it looked left again.

A

2:30

Then it looked right again.

A

2:31

And then it looked down and almost picked up a sunflower seed.

A

2:35

It's a cardinal.

A

Almost picked up a sunflower seed.

A

2:38

Then it had to look left again.

A

and look right again.

A

2:41

And why is it doing that? It wants to make sure the coast is

D

DuaneHost

2:44

clear.

A

2:45

It just doesn't want to be ambushed by something, because this time of year, every bird, especially the young birds, are chicken nuggets, really, for everything else that wants to eat them.

A

2:58

As I walked, there was an American kestrel, and he is frequently called, yet, the sparrowhawk.

A

3:07

And when I was a kid, When I was a kid, I heard it called sparrowhawk all the time.

A

3:13

But it's not really a hawk.

A

3:14

It's a falcon.

A

3:16

And I heard people, oh, I can't remember what it was, in Michigan maybe, somebody out there was calling it a grasshopper hawk.

A

3:24

And that's kind of

D

DuaneHost

3:25

a,

A

3:26

not a bad name, because it eats large insects.

A

3:30

So it loves to eat grasshoppers and things.

A

3:34

Down, oh gosh, Florida or somewhere, somebody called it a wind hover.

A

3:40

Wind hover.

A

3:41

And that's inspired by its ability to hover while it's hunting.
