A Healthy Fear Of The Lord - Mark Varughese - 27 September 2026

So nice to see you all.

And today the subject matter, the title of my sermon is A Healthy Fear of the Lord.

Amen.

A healthy fear of the Lord.

Now we know the Bible says God has not given us a spirit of fear.

So what does a healthy fear look like? Let me just firstly start by letting you know, not all fear is bad, right? I mean, the fact you're, who's scared of sharks? That's a good fear.

Because if you're not, you'll go swim and then we'll never see you again.

How many are scared of heights? I'm not saying you should be, but when you stand at the edge of a cliff, a little bit of fear will actually stop you from falling over.

So there's a healthy fear.

There's obviously an unhealthy fear.

But when we talk about the fear of the Lord, the unhealthy fear of the Lord is this.

Let me just be clear.

The unhealthy fear is a cringing terror, this fear.

that actually makes you scared and drives you away from God.

That is an unhealthy fear.

But a healthy fear of the Lord is a holy reverence that draws us toward Him.

And can I say to you that if you don't have a healthy fear of God, you will have a distorted view of God.

Whatever your image of God is, if it's missing the flavor of I fear you, Lord, it is not a complete picture.

You know, as I was growing up, I thought of God as someone to be absolutely terrified of.

You

know, when I found God to be relational and intimate and loving, it unlocked my whole world.

I got genuinely saved.

And it changed my entire life.

And it will change yours because he is a loving father.

That almighty, omnipresent, supernatural creator God who holds the universe in the palm of his hands.
