As we know, over the weekend, the Mets placed Luis Robert Jr. on waivers, hoping that a team would take him off their hands, clear some of his remaining salary after they were unable to trade him at the trade deadline on August 3rd.

I was on record on the podcast on Sunday saying I didn't think anything was going to come of it.

I didn't think anybody was going to claim him because there seemed to be little to zero interest in trading for Luis Robert from any team just three, four weeks ago.

But to my surprise, and to the surprise of some, Luis Robert Jr. was claimed, and he is no longer a member of the New York Mets.

Luis Robert now joins Pete Alonso in Baltimore with the Orioles, who claimed him earlier on Monday.

I assume this ends any speculation of any potential reunion between the Mets and Robert in 2027, though they could try to bring him back on a one-year deal if his option is declined by the Orioles, which I assume it will be.

And I don't know why the Mets would necessarily really want him back at this point.

You would have liked the Mets to have maybe gotten some small lottery ticket asset for him at the deadline.

CBT tax and all that fun stuff.

But it does alleviate the Mets from having to pay him his $2 million buyout for next year, assuming that they were going to decline his $20 million team option for 2027, which they absolutely were not going to pick up.

And despite the fact that, you know, Robert missed nearly three months with a herniated, uh, disc in his back and he wasn't particularly productive in his time here, the Mets still come, um, you know, the, the Mets still come up on top here because, you know, between Robert's production and Acuna's production, Acuna, just by the way, uh, Let's see.
