Spoked Z and Hoppy talk about the NHL 2026-2027 Season Preview, Kirill Marchenko trade to Toronto Maple Leafs, Atlantic, Metropolitan, Central, Pacific Breakdown and Futures predictions and value…
Spoked ZHostMatteoGuestI don't know if we're going to spend 10 minutes, two hours on this, but Kirill Marchenko traded.
Matthew Nyes, after an entire offseason, it seems like, of trying to trade him for whatever, at least it seems like Toronto got a solid player in return, but, like, the saga's ended.
Do we know at this point why they were so keen on trading Matty Nyes? I mean, I would imagine,
like, listen, like...

Um, and if you're at Columbus, you're thrilled that you have a player who publicly wanted out and was highly covered around the league.

But usually when it's that known that he wants out that bad, you don't really get a good return.

Again, it sucks that Columbus keeps having some of these young studs come in and then eventually wanting out pretty quickly outside of two or three guys here.

But to get Matty and I as part of that package, I think in the here and now, Toronto's getting a better player and a player that really checks a lot of their boxes too for what they're looking for up front.

Obviously, they've decided not to go into this They did like one year of being very bad on accident, and they're not interested in being bad anymore.

I think Marchenko is a real needle mover in the here and now, and obviously he also gets that extension.
thought? Yeah, maybe.
Maybe it is six.
Yeah.
It's like 12-5.

And, like, you look at Marcinko, and, I mean, you look at who he's going to be playing with, whether it's on that – whichever – combination they land on here but um i think mark shingle gets the upgrade in the here and now and maddie nyes obviously there's a ton of room for him to continue to improve he's already a really solid you know like top six power forward in the league um and he's going to be looked at as one of the go-to guys in that columbus lineup so i think both teams given what they were trying to do or at least what columbus was forced to do at this point that's a really nice return for them they also get out of that miles wood contract and then was it the merzlikens contract
Most of the Merzlikens won.
