The Mexico Boom: Market Insights from Christie’s Real Estate CEO Jason Waller

Sounds great.

My name is Jason Waller.

I am now the CEO of Christie's International Real Estate Mexico Luxury Properties here, located in the east coast of Mexico, Cancun, the Tulum area.

I moved out here from Canada 21 years ago in 2005.

I was done with winter.

I couldn't handle the cold anymore and I had to make a change.

21 years ago, we loaded up the truck and drove seven days from Winnipeg all through the States and in through Mexico and just after a hurricane and just before another hurricane.

So it was a learning lesson.

I got to experience the craziest one ever when I first moved here.

And then it's been pretty chill since then.

But yeah, I moved here.

I set everything up and I was a sales manager of another real estate company.

And for that first year, I decided it's time to do my own thing.

And then when we started, it was me.

I was the realtor.

I handled everything and I did that for years.

It was really hard to let go and expand it and do it because, you know, you build your reputation and you work hard on that.

And so once you start allowing other people to come in, it starts to get scary because you don't want someone else to hurt your reputation.

But then once I got going and realized that, you know, I can only do so much and if we want to grow, we got to keep on doing things.

So We expanded, I partnered up with Matt Matheson, who's my business partner.

He runs a lot of the stuff with the company.

My wife Leah and I, we handle a lot of the bigger deals and the expansion and things like that.

Whereas Matt handles the day to day.

Once you bring in good people, it makes such a difference.

And really the company has exploded ever since that we started doing that.
