No One Like God | Isaiah 46

This is on page 643 of the Pew Bible in front of you.

If you're new to using a Bible, the big numbers are chapter numbers, the small numbers are verse numbers.

And Isaiah is kind of almost in the middle of the Bible.

And we're going to look at Isaiah 46.

We're going to look at the whole chapter, just 13 verses.

You know, Isaiah is a big book, and I know that we're jumping right into the middle of it.

In the first half of this book, the prophet Isaiah has been warning the people of Israel that they are going to be judged for their sin.

They have rejected God in so many ways, and sure enough, the people of Israel, they end up in exile in Babylon.

And so we find the people of Israel in exile...

In this second half of Isaiah, there is now a turn in the prophetic word that is no longer just talking about judgment, but actually pointing towards a hope of salvation.

And the question that's being raised is similar to the question I've proposed to you.

Who are the people of Israel going to look to to save them from exile? In some ways, we can think of this section, Isaiah 40 through 48, as a courtroom scene for God.

That God is making His case to the people.

That He is different from any other false god that Israel or the Babylonians were worshiping.

So we're going to look at this text in two parts.

Really first looking at verses 1 through 7.

God's claim against false gods.

And then secondly, in 8 through 13, God's claim of who He is.

We're going to read this text, 1 through 13.
