When I was a small child, my younger sisters and I would often go and spend the day with my grandmother.
Almost always, she would take us to the library first thing, and we'd return with a large stack of children's books.
She'd read to us for hours, and she could do voices better than anyone I've ever met.
Of all the stories, I would say her favorite and ours was the original Winnie the Pooh stories.
And that comes to mind because each of those characters, and this was a distinct part of the genius of A.A. Milne, each of the characters embodies a personality, a temperament, an emotional profile.
And no matter what's going on, there is one thing this lovable bear knows, that nothing will be quite right unless Christopher Robin is near.
And when he is, Pooh has no doubt, whatever's the matter, it is going to turn out right simply because Christopher Robin is there.
I have no idea whether A.A. Milne knew the Lord, but in my view, in his stories, the relationship that he created between Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin is the single best allegory I've encountered in literature, even if it was an unintentional allegory.
