The Arrogance of Knowing Just Enough

Man, I want to talk about something that's really been bothering me.

And I mean, really bothered me.

You know, I've been watching what's happening online, particularly the way some pastors and some Christian leaders are being attacked.

Men like Philip Anthony Mitchell, Josh Houghton, just some young and up-and-coming dudes.

Now, I'm not here to defend Christians.

Every word they've spoken, I'm certainly not suggesting that pastors are above correction.

They're not.

And I think scripture makes that clear.

But there's something happening in our culture that ought to concern every one of us.

We've got people watching 15 seconds of a sermon, maybe reading a handful of comments and deciding they know everything they need to know about a man.

his theology, his character, even his motives.

And sometimes they think they know his entire ministry based on 15 seconds.

And suddenly they're qualified to pronounce judgment.

Now, I want you to take Top shows right now in America are The Voice, AGT, and other shows like that.

They don't get judges on that show that haven't done what the contestants are going to do or at least have not been in the entertainment world.

I mean, Simon Cowell has been doing this forever.

He has proven himself to be a good judge.

You may not like what he says, but he's done the work.

But that is not the case with most people online.

They feel like that they've watched 15 seconds of something and now all of a sudden they can pronounce judgment on somebody's entire fricking life.

I've spent 30 years in construction and home building.

I can tell you something.

No, you don't become a builder because you've watched a few videos and you've framed a house.

You may know what a hammer is.

You can know even what a level does, but And you can even memorize the building codes.
