Nagoya 2026 Banzuke Review

Starting at Yokozuna, no shock, of course, Hoshoryu is our Yokozuna East.

Onosato is our Yokozuna West.

Uh, we'll talk about, a lot more about it on the preview episode, but both of them have stated they're planning on competing in the upcoming basho.

Onosato had said that previous to the p- uh, last basho, so we'll see how much we believe them.

His word means nothing.

Yeah.

Uh, but positive sign for both of them.

At ozeki, on the east side, we have Kirishima.

He had a better record than his fellow ozeki, Kotoshogiku, who is on the west side.

So Kirishima is ahead of Kotoshogiku.

Then we do head down to sekiwake, where, of course, we did have four sekiwake.

We added two to the ranks of sekiwake.

Still at sekiwake East 1, we have Atamifuji.

And at sekiwake 1 West, we have Kotoshoho.

And at sekiwake 2 East, we have Wakatakakage.

Sekiwake 2 West, we have Aoishiki.

So if we didn't have it before, we definitively have it now that a promoted komusubi gets preference in rank over a demoted ozeki.

I'm pretty sure we knew that 100% before, but now we definitely know moving forward that if you've got two spots being added, one from a komusubi, one from an ozeki, komusubi gets the higher rank.

Yeah.

I, and I would be willing to bet that, uh, the dropping ozeki is always last is probably-

Then at komusubi on the east side, we have Yoshinofuji, who is gonna be at his career-high rank, making his sanyaku debut here this basho.
