Akio! The JSA and particularly the Yokozuna Deliberation Council, they were very critical of Hoshoryu for not competing on day 14 and giving a Fusen win in a very important matchup.

I don't think I've seen them intersperse themselves in that way before.

That being said, it left Kirishima on 11 wins going into day 15.

He got into a position where he just overbalanced and fell a bit forward as perhaps a mixture of some poor footwork, a bit of lack of patience as he tried to charge forward a bit too hard.

It's a close call, went Chiranumi's way after a Mono-E judges conference.

Yokozuna, Onosato and Hoshoryu, wow, didn't they come in for some serious criticism from the Yokozuna deliberation council after the Basho.

And this arguably could be the best chance that he has.

Because realistically speaking, if Aonishiki and Hoshoryu are both at full health, I don't know.

I just don't know.

I don't know if he could do it.

It's unfortunate that he did suffer a right knee injury last tournament bowing out with a 5, 2 and 8 and it's unclear whether he's going to be in this tournament, but pretty much sure that he's not going to, with an MCL issue being, well, the issue.

So more than likely than not, this is just purely a keepsake ranking, and he will go down to due draw next tournament.

Still, he decided to stay in the competition, and it paid off.

He defeated both yokozuna Ono Sato and Hoshoryu on consecutive days.

By day 11, Aonishi had already secured the 10 victories he needed to regain ozeki status.

Goddammit.

What stands out about Atamifuji these days is his consistency.

So if he stays injury-free, there's a good chance he'll make the cut.
