Aki 2026 Banzuke Review

At Yokozuna, we have on the east side Onosato and on the west side Hoshoryu.

There could be nothing else for the Yokozuna as Onosato had more wins than Hoshoryu.

And we'll have more wins than Hoshoryu for the foreseeable future.

We'll dive more into it on the preview episode for the show proper.

But Hoshoryu had some surgery.

after the Basho to repair a partially torn MCL that had him pull out of the previous Basho.

It's probably been hampering him for a while, and we fully expect Oshori to be absent from the upcoming Basho and possibly another one or two after that as he looks to fully get prepared to come back in full health.

Yep.

Otherwise, bad things could happen for Hoshoryu.

But that's for a different conversation for a different day.

We drop down to Ozeki where really only one thing could happen.

We're going to have Kirishima on the east side of Ozeki 1, Kotozakura on the west side of Ozeki 1, and Aonishiki on the east side of Ozeki 2.

Kirishima had the most wins of the current Ozeki, so he is the highest ranked Ozeki player.

Kotozakura stays ahead of Aonishiki, despite the fact that Aonishiki had more wins than Kotozakura because Aonishiki was ranked Sekiwake last Basho.

And whenever an Ozeki is promoted, they are the lowest ranked Ozeki.

So that is how that plays out.

And we only have three Ozeki.

So Ozeki to West remains blank on that side.

Same goes for Yokozuna, by the way.

Whenever you're new to one of these ranks, you're the bottom.

But other than that, it's sorted just by a simple, how many wins did you get last time?

Yep.

And then we get to Sekiwake, where there's really only one way that this could go.

We have Itami Fuji as Sekiwake East, and we have Fuji Nokawa as Sekiwake West.

but that's not how I predicted it.
