Davidovich Fokina wins the Shanghai Masters 2026, while Maja Chwalińska claims the Wuhan Open title! Two incredible comebacks, two career-changing trophies — join Game To Love for our tennis finals…
And I guess I've got to say how wrong I am because Maya Hrelenska, I've been very critical of her, um, her, her style of play.
She's a bit of a moon baller.
And I know famously, I've seen the comments, I said she's not gonna win anything.
She now has gone on and won a Masters title, which is massive.
Um, and yeah, I was totally wrong on it.
One thing I would say is I still haven't changed my opinion massively.
I think she was fortunate to be finding someone like a Sone Cartao in the final, as much as Cartao's had a fantastic week, and I believe there's a fantastic player in there.
It's not one of the top athletes.
Do I think Hrelenska has what it takes to beat one of them in a big match and a big title? Not for me.
I just don't think she's got enough power.
Defensively, she was fantastic today, and I particularly liked where she did attack in the second set, uh, to be able to close that one out because she didn't revert to just going back to the sort of passive defensive moon balling style.
And she took the match to Sone Cartao in the really pinnacle moments which mattered, and third set she ran away with it.
Um, and I guess it's just a fantastic story because, what, at the start of Roland Garros, she was outside the top 100.
She now climbs to the 11th spot in the world.
Uh, so real claims to maybe finish the year in the top 10.
It's been a fantastic, fantastic year for her.
I don't think she would have really believed it.
