Eugene and John discuss Buck Rogers season 1, episode 22, “Buck’s Duel to the Death,” after a storm interrupted their first attempt to record. They describe it as a fairly routine episode in which…
The planet Katar's population is enslaved to warlord Tabor, whose ancestors have ruled for centuries.
He steals their women and kills their warriors, and the people are just too timid to rise up against him.
But there is the legend of the Roshan, which gives the people hope.
They believe the Roshan, a 500-year-old man, is destined to lead them to victory over the Tabor.
Deputy Minister Neal brings up that on Earth, there is a 500-year-old man, one Captain Buck Rogers, hoping to bring Buck back to Qatar and give the people a rallying point to rise up against the Traybor.
Buck is tricked into returning to Qatar and then finds out what they want him to do.
He resists until he, A, discovers how rotten the Traybor is, and B, the Traybor sends goons to kill him before he can cause any trouble.
Rather than trying to rally the planetary population to revolution, Buck just leads an assault team on the Traybor's palace, rescues the Traybor's harem, and ultimately escapes.
The Traybor follows after Rogers back to the capital city of Kartarm, but Buck is prepared for him.
The Traybor uses an obsolete technology called electricity, which he has been technically enhanced to control and toss electrical charges at his enemies.
Buck uses Tweaky to drain his electrical charge, then whoops him in hand-to-hand combat.
Katar is saved.
Huzzah! Okay.
Well, Buck's duel to the death.
I remember last time what my first point is, but I'm going to go with the traditional one this time.
What'd you think of Buck's duel to the death,
John? Um, wasn't so much a duel as a kind of just a, just a light scuffle, I think.
You know, after this one was done, I don't think anybody was saying, you know, I got a good feeling about this one.
That didn't happen.
no no this episode is pretty uh bog standard frankly you know buck is a symbol of hope buck comes in buck inspires people yeah whatever
yeah exactly that's pretty much it yeah we've
seen it before
yeah we'll
