Laura Cassidy is the Interim Services Manager at Recompose — the Seattle-based funeral home pioneering human composting as an alternative to traditional burial and cremation. After two decades…
We are a full-service funeral home, which sometimes does get sort of lost in the mix because we'll talk about so many other things.
So it's important for everyone to know that Recompose We do all the things that you need a funeral home to do, and we just do some of them quite differently.
So when folks work with us, they don't need to work with another funeral home.
So we're standing here in this really light-filled space with lots of plants and lots of natural elements.
When you pull up outside, there's a mural showing root systems and plant life.
And all of that is really meant to underscore the very natural work that we do.
We do a relatively new form of care that our founder, Katrina Spade, pioneered beginning in 2011 that we refer to as human composting.
likes those complex terms, doesn't it?
And that's what I'm hoping to show you today is both the ceremony spaces as well as we'll be able to duck into where we do the human composting.
And we'll talk about kind of how all that works and sort of how we got here to begin with.
Beautiful.
Well, let's dive
All right, so we're in this really beautiful space.
