yeah um here we are now so basically i i have a podcast problem which means that i uh ended up listening to an episode of the journal which is the podcast from the wall street journal well they probably have several but it's the one that i listen to and the topic that they went in deep on is deadly counterfeit airbags and apparently this is a thing that has been known about and been in the news for a minute but this is the first time i have heard anything about it um i think we're all probably familiar with the takata airbag recalls that have been so massive i have

But just in case, in 2014, there was a massive recall for a specific manufacturer's airbags that the manufacturer made them for a lot of major brands.
Millions and millions of cars affected.

but it's a recall.
So that means that notices went out to as many people as possible and you could bring your car into the dealership and they would fix that, replace it free of charge.
Fuck up your dad deal.
You know, no big deal.
So the reason they did that is because instead of inflating normally, those airbags, like the inflator, would basically explode itself when inflating the airbag, causing a bunch of shrapnel to come flying at the passengers.
The metal casings would... fragment, like a fucking frag grenade.
It would blast through the airbag and into your face.
It's crazy.
