**Fine Line & Whiskey Podcast** Nick and Brian are back breaking down everything from this weekend in NASCAR. From race strategy and mechanical failures to the latest headlines around the garage…
Nick AlfordHostSo getting into Indy, uh, so episode 21, fine line on whiskey podcast, Indianapolis race review.
Um, what'd you think of the race? Um,

I was pretty upset that I took a nap before the race because it was very, very boring.
Yeah, I don't know about this year.
I actually enjoy running Indy and I did not have any fun whatsoever.
So here's my thing.
You can't pass.

outside of you know restarts your single file the entire fucking race what are we doing we're just following later that's it like and it's not like a normal drafting track where the leader can't get you know a giant lead or they're screwed the leader just gets out there and he's just out there like there's nothing you can do you can't get through that bubble that, that like that three to five tenths of a second bubble to where you just get stuck and you can't get any closer and you just, you gain ground and then you lose it on the exit of corner.
Yeah, I thought somebody said something before the race last week, and it might have even been the pre-race show, but they were like, whoever gets the lead late in the race is going to end up holding that position and defending on the restarts, which is, I feel like, what we saw the last two restarts or so, which came to fruition.
I was actually kind of shocked at who won the race, and here's why before we start getting through the statistical part of of the race review was this guy obviously was one of the drivers in the mix of names that were dealing with pit strategies or whatnot and had a really bad restart with logano behind him almost cost him the lead well actually it did with Hamlin going around.
Unfortunately, he's ineligible for cup driver points because he's a part-timer.
But this is the second race this year where Corey Heim, he's had a lot of time to prepare for these races.
So I can see that being an advantage, not running a full cup schedule or being part of a full cup preparation week.
And instead, this is more of like a... you know, a month in preparation ish, uh, to, to get the car ready for this type of deal.
Um, so before we get through the rest of the statistics here, Corey, what was interesting about him was in practice, you know, he was mere, you know, maybe mid, mid tens or so came out seventh or whatever in practice.
Um, and, uh, When he went out to qualify, conditions were perfect.
And he ended up snapping the next-gen race qualifying time, which I posted in the bar and grill.
And then obviously everybody after him did the same, which kind of took away a little bit of that spotlight.
But I thought that was super interesting.
And I think when I saw that, he became one of my betting favorites for this race because clearly he has the speed and he's a talking point.
