We're welcoming registered dietitian Alex Larson to help us dive deep into the critical (and less critical) nutrition trends of coming in 2026. Alex and your host, Dr. Erin Ayala, discuss the…
One of the things, and for this episode specifically, I was like, let's talk about trends because there's so much noise on the internet, on social media about the quote unquote, right things to do.
gains, like these new, like the supplement industry is projected to reach 230 billion by 2026, which is wild.
So I'm wondering, I guess, just to kind of start things off, like what is your critical thinking framework when it comes to basically separating the noise from things that are actually worth considering and like evaluating trendy nutrition related products?
Well, first and foremost, I think like the boring, unsexy, like just eating really well day after day is going to get you 99% of the way in terms of seeing success.
Like you're going to see so much more gains from working on that, those types of things and building a nice foundation.
And then we can look at where in your day does it make sense to add in a supplement? And I certainly used to be kind of anti-supplement early on in my dietitian career.
And now that I'm like crazy busy and I'm doing all of this training and I have heightened nutritional needs and I'm very aware of that.
I do that every day just to give me that like convenience of like getting because i try and get like plenty of protein every day and it just helps me do that and also it tastes like a wendy's frosty like for those in the u.s you told me this i need it yeah i need to taste like a wendy's frosty like it it's so good and um so to me it's like a little sweet treat but i'm like getting 33 grams of protein from it yeah And so I'm like, great, like this supplement, it's not replacing my meals, but it's just like something I might add on to my meal to up the protein, especially in the morning at breakfast or like post workout.
The other thing with supplements is that there's a lot of marketing involved and there's a lot of claims.
