Psalms 1–46 | Come Follow Me | Faith Insights

Hello there, and welcome to Faith Insights.

Today, let's talk about the book of Psalms, chapters 1 through 46.

Now, some of you may be thinking at the outset,

hmm,

I don't really know what's in the book of Psalms.

Maybe a few passages here or there, but what's the storyline? Obviously, there is no storyline.

There is no plot.

There's no group of characters working us through a series of events because this is ancient Israel's hymn book.

This is where they would turn for their hymns.

So what is it about the book of Psalms and why would we want to spend three weeks studying these chapters? There is a power in music that many of you, if not all of you, have experienced in your own life where you recognize that music is more than just words.

It's more than just rhythm.

It becomes this communication channel that opens up in our mind and our heart to carry a message a little deeper into our soul and that message could be one of praise and adoration of god it could be one of sadness and lament it could be one of cheering you up and getting you excited for a sporting event or at a dance getting a crowd excited or at a concert where people are dancing and they're just filled with excitement Music is powerful and both the Lord and the adversary use the power of music to entice us and to influence us.

So it's our privilege and our opportunity.

as children of God to not be victims of the power of music just in general, but to be more intentional about our use of and even at times creation of music to lift and elevate and inspire and excite the human soul that we all have.

In fact, on one level for me personally, Music has become one of the most profound love languages that my Heavenly Father uses to communicate with me.

There have been so many times where I've been in a situation or a setting where I didn't know what to do or I was discouraged or I was despondent, felt down or confused and music will be playing and all of a sudden the Lord is helping me know that He sees me.

He knows what I'm going through and He has not forsaken me.
