Jack Winterburn Exodus 20:13 www.emmanuelcroydon.org.uk
So I'm glad to be here with you and thankful, as John was saying, for the support that Emmanuel gives to us and the encouragement that I've had over the years and still today.
And it might be among the most obvious verses in the Bible, right? Why have a sermon on you shall not murder when, you know, well, it's hard to find someone who disagrees, isn't it? Or at least who will admit it.
I think it's really interesting to take a slow look at them like this because myself in the past, you know, I would have skipped over it.
If you wanted to see the Ten Commandments as a list of boxes to tick, I haven't done that.
But I think for many people, particularly who are not Christians, that's what they think Christianity is about.
And I suppose you could say to take the child's approach in the Ten Commandments and to ask, well, why not? Why not? And then what is God going to do about the fact that people don't listen to what he says? To put it another way, I'd like to use the commandment as a window to see throughout the Bible story the value and the victory of life.
