In this episode, guest Max McCalley reflects on the foundational experiences that shaped his competitive drive, early faith, and athletic path to college football. He dives into the hard-earned…
I played linebacker for most of high school and then I played quarterback my senior year.
When you were going to college, was there a position that you had planned that you were going to be playing?
In Texas, there's this thing like if you're a good athlete, you play quarterback and then you get to college.
I can read a defense and I can throw the ball and run, but then you walk in and there's guys who are like 6'5", their dad's played in the NFL.
I, uh, I felt that before too, like going through and just baseball is a little bit different, but yeah, even going up through the levels, it's like, yeah, it's all a whole different eyeopening experience to realize how athletic some people are naturally.
like you can tell that there was there was some kids that just had a knack for it and they were pushed in the right direction and they just lived and were breathing
and they were so good and then there was the then there was the guys that were just like so naturally talented but had like no drive no ambition yeah it's just so funny to see that uh okay so in texas though um Oh, one more thing about the levels.
I remember, so I played division two baseball and I remember watching a division three basketball team one time somewhere locally here and then going to my college and watching the division two basketball team and night and day.
And so I can't even imagine like going from D2 to D1, like just how skilled and how intense that must be.
So this is unpopular opinion and I'm kind of like degrading my own ability here.
But I'm like, I think D2 and then FCS, like the smaller version of D1 football, are actually pretty similar.
