Hallie and Clare dive into the bakers' misguided "American cookies", the Taste and Bake Iced Gem (or are they "Precious Gems?") Technical, and a gloriously 2D landscape showstopper. Plus...Clare…
So the challenge is to make American style cookies in two hours, and they have to make 30.
And the first thing I thought was like, this is really hard, not because of the technique of making cookies, but the yield.
Most cookie recipes really only are designed to yield 12 to 16 cookies, depending on the size.
So while the dough will come together quickly, you are not gonna get the mass you want from an everyday recipe.
So they're probably having to scale up the recipe and really be tight on timing.
And batch it probably, because, I mean, I don't know if you could make 30 cookies in a regular size KitchenAid, but I've never tried.
[laughs]
That's such a good point.
Well, I was thinking about, like, my mom, who makes insane amounts of cookies.
We all talked about, with, our, both our moms make insane baked goods over the holidays, and my mom has this cookie recipe that's big, devel- it's, like, developed for bulk, but you have to chill the dough.
Hmm.
So you have a log, like a log style cookie.
You roll it up.
Right.
You chill it or you freeze it or whatever, and then you slice...
It's like a slice and bake.
And obviously they don't have time to do that in two hours, so they have to just kind of make a lot and assume it will turn out, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Th- I agree.
I, everyone was sort of saying, like, this is, this is challenging because of the time.
So, and, and o- clearly it did get to some of them.
Some of them ran out of time a little bit.
Um, I, before we get into people's work, I just thought it was really funny, the word cookie is very foreign to the British mouth.
I agree.
