Don't Know What To Do - A Ranma 1/2 Podcast
Aug 11, 2026 · 2 hr 17 min · 11 segments
Friend of the show Mitch joins us once again to see how the art of adaptation can teach us many things, like Ranma's drink preferences, the writer of the week's waifu preferences, and how to make…
Well, thankfully, we, we can introduce this much quicker, because the, the, the, the things that I wanted to cover before starting the, the actual discussion of these episodes is just the, the, the more generalized changes.
There are, there are, there are minor ones, like the classic anime skipped Ghost and Kugi, meaning we got, like, two or three arcs-
Yeah
... where, well, he's not here so we have to write around that, but it was honestly not that hard.
But then he came back in the manga, so the anime brought him in via filler, a filler episode that reintroduces Ghost and Kugi-
[laughs]
... and now he's here to do the canon stuff.
But then the manga stopped using him, so now we have to make new filler for Ghost and Kugi, 'cause we brought him in.
We got the voice actor, we're gonna have him be present.
And it's just so interesting.
But the bulk of what we discussed is there is one change in particular that, like, out of all the changes the anime makes, uh, either version, honestly, I can at least kind of look at it and guess why.
But it pr- it specific- the one that continues to baffle me, and no one in the comments has given me any i- ideas.
People, people have been very nice at pointing out when I'm wrong about something.
[laughs]
But this time, and no one else i- is, is, is free of this confusion, is just why did the classic anime decide to make Ranma's transformation a secret to everyone still?
Oh, and it's, it's so good, 'cause it being a secret to everyone I feel like takes away a lot of what makes Kuno especially stupid.
Yes.
[laughs]
It'll be PE class, and he is in the girls' uniform, 'cause they're swimming or whatever.
His class is just used to that, meaning Kuno has probably actually seen the pig-tailed girl around school before.
[laughs]
